About him
Despite life’s tribulations, I know I am an incredibly lucky person and try to be grateful for this every day. I am engaged by the world - culture, science, environment, politics – and revel in it. I look to the future with some of the brilliant attributes of youth (optimism, curiosity, energy) tempered by the attributes of experience (a certain wisdom, reflection, mindfulness).
I have spent most of my life in the commercial world (advertising, then research) before a recent late switch into the charity sector. Apart from a couple of stints abroad, I have lived mainly in London, much to my surprise. I like London but want more of the countryside and coast in the future.
I am a well-informed, intellectually-curious, thoughtful chap. I like metaphysical things as well as material things. My friends say that I am kind, compassionate, empathetic, funny. My children say I look like Louis Theroux. I am as happy ‘being’ as I am ‘doing’. I greatly value culture, particularly art, antiques, architecture, music and books. But if I’m watching TV, it’s likely to be a science documentary. I also enjoy sport, mainly tennis, rugby and horse-racing, though my own physical activity is limited to Parkruns, yoga and swimming.
I am interested in almost everything. The flipside of this breadth is that I don’t have any especial hobbies nor do I spend my Saturdays at football matches – for better for worse. That said, I’m keen to learn the piano and become much better at Spanish. The most instant things which spring to mind when it comes to dislikes are smoking, hypocrisy and dill.
Humans are social beings and although I am happy with my own company, I feel that life is better shared. Cooking is more enjoyable when you cook for someone else, travel is more enjoyable when you travel with someone else, and adventures are more enjoyable when they are plotted with someone else.

I feel that my principal criteria are that you are compassionate, pretty happy with your lot, have a career and appreciate the importance of some level of physical exercise. You will have an absolute enthusiasm for life and be keen on exploring culture, nature and travel with me.
At the same time, I would like someone who knows that the beauty of life also lies in all its little moments. I am a regular, sensible, reflective chap and I would like to meet someone similar, someone who has thought about what it means to be human.
Non-negotiables are that you do not smoke and that you voted to remain in the EU.
Perhaps this is rather prescriptive, and almost certainly lofty, but best to aim high!
